I heard this for the first time tonight and it's my new favorite inspirational song.. performed by a group named 'Jack's Mannequin'... give it a listen and let us know what you think. ;)

Lyrics:

You've gotta swim
Swim for your life
Swim for the music
That saves you
When you're not so sure you'll survive
You gotta swim
And swim when it hurts
The whole world is watching
You haven't come this far
To fall off the earth
The currents will pull you
Away from your love
Just keep your head above

I found a tidal wave
Begging to tear down the dawn
Memories like bullets
They fired at me from a gun
A crack in the armor
I swim for brighter days
Despite the absence of sun
Choking on salt water
I'm not giving in
I swim

You gotta swim
Through nights that won't end
Swim for your families
Your lovers your sisters
And brothers and friends
Yeah you've gotta swim
Through wars without cause
Swim for the lost politicians
Who don't see their greed as a flaw

The currents will pull us
Away from our love
Just keep your head above

I found a tidal wave
Begging to tear down the dawn
Memories like bullets
They fired at me from a gun
A crack in the armor
I swim for brighter days
Despite the absence of sun
Choking on salt water
I'm not giving in
I swim

You gotta swim
Swim in the dark
There's no shame in drifting
Feel the tide shifting and wait for the spark
Yeah you've gotta swim
Don't let yourself sink
Just find the horizon
I promise you it's not as far as you think
The currents will drag us away from our love
Just keep your head above
Swim

Thanks Ron I loved this.
The lyrics reminded me of this part of Kipling's IF:
"If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them:"Hold on!"
Thining about there is a lot of resonance with the whole of that poem... nice one! Thank you :-)

My reality parallels in uncanny measure the need, meaning, memories and emotions being infused throughout this song. I keep seeing more and more how our details may vary... but the emotional outcome for life's journey is keenly comparable.

It is a great song! So very glad you came across it for us ;b Ron ;b One of those... " I really needed to hear that this very night!" songs.

Lifeboat, thanks for adding the verse from Kipling. ;) That holding on is powerful and imperative! Strength drains out so quickly... especially when continually bombarded with incessant challenges... but to enforce the Will to indeed... "Hold on!" ... vital.

The bottom line, especially for my character,
is the issue of unconditional love.”

hello Ron...
well I can understand why that would be a new favourite.

Having grown up on the beach and being third generation life saver many many times when helping others I have used swimming analogies and in particular one about body surfing how you must be fit and healthy first then swim out get your position and wait and wait and when the timing is right go for it hard and ride the big wave but if you do get dumped and dragged along the bottom and think you will never breathe again just push yourself up and pop up and breathe then if you need to take time out on the sand to rest for a while and then when you are ready run back in....!
