And I call you friend

Though we’ve never sat together
At the riverbank
watching
Gentle laughter ripple
Across each others face

Or huddled close
In the arms of silence
Breathing
the heavy air
of unspoken pain

Though I may never know
The weight
of your tears
within the soft of my palm

or watch the midday sun
holding
your
face softly
in its hopeful embrace

Still,
I hold a space for you
In this world

I honour the universe
That lives within you

The wild love that beats
Your heart
As effortlessly as little stars
Chasing dreams
across the skies

I bless your journey

Your valiant efforts to hold
All the parts of yourself
Shadow and light
Contradiction and Truth
Behind a singular
face

You are my brother,
My sister.

You are my own

And till that wild day
When you walk through my door
Singing my name,

I will make a place for you
At my table.

And call you
My friend
