My Seasons
(June 7th, 1992)
It's June.
Spring is almost past,
Summer will soon be
Beginning
And I'll get busy
Gardening and canning
And before you know it
It will be Fall;
School will be starting,
I'll be cleaning up
After Summer's full house
And then
It will be Winter
And I will be pondering
New ways as a mother
To brighten the drab
Winter months
For my family.
The holiday seasons
Will come;
I'll muddle through
And earnestly yearn
For the Spring
(The fever starts about January.)
Spring will come
And I will rejoice
In the rebirth.
I'll plant my garden
With vision.
(Though it seldom turns out as I invision it.)
Then the whole cycle
Will repeat itself . . .
14 Years Later . . .
It's June again.
Spring is almost past
And summer
Will be beginning.
My daughters
Will be leaving
For the Army soon
And I will be trying
To stay busy
With gardening
And working
In the community
To lighten
The heaviness
In my heart.
Many seasons
Have come and gone,
All our children
Are raised
And Ken and I
Will be alone.
I want to look forward
But I can't help
Sometimes
Looking back.
I still see them
As children,
Even though
Some of them
Have children
Of their own.
No need to can
Anymore
For just
The two of us.
Soon it will be Fall
And Ken and I
Can hit the road
With the trailer
And go rockhounding,
Come home,
Cuddle up
On the couch
And watch football.
Then, before long,
It will be Winter.
The kids
Won't be here
This year
So I think
I'll decorate the Ficus
And forget
The traditional
Christmas tree.
Or, maybe,
I won't have a tree
At all.
(I feel a strange sense of freedom.)
In fact,
I think we'll go out
For Christmas dinner,
Why cook a turkey
And have to freeze
The leftovers?
I'm going to be
A silly old woman
Who talks to herself,
Aren't I?
Hee Hee.
Now where's my rake?
Love,
Barbie

Wisdom tells me I am nothing.
Love tells me I am everything.
And between the two, my life flows.

Thank you Christine and Summerrain. I am sorry to have to admit, but sometimes I answer myself
. That's okay though, cuz sometimes I give myself good advice.

Like I always say... it's OK to talk to yourself... as long as you enjoy the company!
This poem is beautiful Barbie... something I think many of us can relate to as we grow older and, hopefully, sillier.
Wishing you many more beautiful gardens!

I am so glad Ron put these up as favourites as they are all so wonderful. I went on the journey with you of the seasons with the young children and then the empty nest. My empty nest was filled up with grandchildren which helps us with our autumn of our own lives !!
