A Tribute to a Good Friend

They say a poem's not really a poem until you share it with someone else. And that's what this place is all about.

Today I lost a good friend.
She was in her late 80s & gravely ill,
So it was to be expected.
But as I got the news,
I reflected on her life.
She was born to abuse
Of every sort.
She struggled
Just to be loved;
And prove herself worthy of love.
She saw death, heard death call
On her little brother and sister,
And held them as they
Faded away in her arms
And wondered if it was
The blows of her parents
That caused it.
She worked in pain and without
The blessings of dignity
Shown a young woman;
She had to keep working.
She lived poor her whole life
Yet would give of her food
Or clothing if she saw a need,
Even though all she had to give
Was rags.
But one thing she never lacked
And that was love and caring.
No one would have been surprised
If she were a bitter old woman,
Mad at the world and hating anyone
Who reminded her of those
Who had made her life a hell;
All the way up until she died,
Still asking "Why did my mother
Treat me like that? Why?"
But instead, she loved.
She seldom attended church
But every day until she lost her eyesight,
She read the Bible.
She believed in God and called on Him
In behalf of her family and her friends.
While she lay dying
And struggling for every breath,
She sought out the voices of those she loved.
She wanted to hear them and make sure they were okay.
When those close to her assured her
That she had lived a hard life and deserved peace
She still hung on because "I need to be here for my children".
She wasn't concerned just about her children,
But everyone's children.
How can love be born out of such ugliness?
How can faith survive such cruelty?
Perhaps, born into all of us,
Is a light that struggles to survive
And shine above the darkness that surrounds us.
That is what I believe,
And that is what I hope to exemplify
In my own life.
I pick up the torch of my friend
And hold it high.
I will continue to love
And continue to care.
And trust in my loving God,
To let my torch never lose it's light.

Goodbye dear friend.
May God exalt you and bless you
With the happiness you have so long sought.
May His loving arms encircle you
And heal your deep wounds
And may we never forget
To see beyond the surface appearances
Of each other.
And love, and care.

Love,
Barbie

Love never fails!

Though people, circumstances, details crowd in with great hardship... love never fails. Your testimony of your friend's unfailing love throughout a lifetme of struggles shows once again the resilant hope that strengthens us when we desire it. No one has to know our "details" to know that they are being touched by the integrity of our love and the unseen faith of all we hope for... that though shaken and tossed about by the happenings of life... never shatters beyond the unfailing love at the core of our souls.

God bless your grieving heart dear ((((Barbie))))) and God bless your dear friend who is safe from all harm xo

Love and peace

Great substance of friendship in your write, Sparky. Love is always a wonderful ingredient for the soul.

.........................
Death is often innocent
taking a friend away
is not a shameful act of deceit
bonds the attachment
more like a molten flow of metal
in a bead of weld
a rod of love gives requisite strength
to hold the friendship
even if the dust of time
comes like a ghost at night
overshadowing this relationship.
