Ravings of a Frenzied Heart

Irresistible temptation –
Yield to and be won over by oblivion.
Ripping this drained and fraught heart
To be devoured in two mouthfuls apart,
No longer hearing the vexing beat
That speaks of you in deceit.
You are the earthquake
That rents my insubstantial earth,
Altering the landscape into unnatural shape.
On this desolate and warped land
Your fresh marks tear me asunder.

I will not befriend alluring annihilation
But I will dance through the dark on the furrows,
Shedding the grief in which you shrouded me.
You enthralled – consigned me to perdition,
Forcing a bewildering sojourn
Amidst the flames of anguish.
My desolation cannot,
Does not want to reach you.
Be it unease or frantic laughter
I will never consent to darkness
Pervading the labyrinth of my emotions.

Tell me a lie –
That we are free spirits
In love with the world
Fleeing from stability.
Subjugate me. Convince me.
Tell me the tale of a forlorn ending
Primal part of our nature.

LadySolaris,
I believe you when you say we are not free spirits...I believe our freedom must come at a price... Good poem.

P.S. By the Way, I love you nickname Beloved Pest...it takes a strong person to admit they are a pest.

I believe it was Benjamin Franklin who said that those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one. Lincoln said pretty much the same: those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves. I read Nelson Mandela's Long Walk to Freedom and one phrase stuck in my mind: "A man who takes away another man's freedom is a prisoner of hatred, he is locked behind the bars of prejudice and narrow-mindedness."

Yes, David - freedom comes at a price. Sometimes an unbearable price, but many times it is the only way to keep on living.

P.S. Why thank you :) I have found that many are allergic to me *hands you tissue just in case.
