The way into freedom

They say a poem's not really a poem until you share it with someone else. And that's what this place is all about.

Motionless from behind a window
I watched a golden leaf in its battle
between clinging to its mother tree
and longing for its final solo dance.
Captivated by its dialogue with fate
I moved closer with my heart
silently whispering words of love.

I felt the urgency of the breeze
whose invitation to let go increased
the rhythm of the trembling leaf.
It sweetly rocked within my eyes
and touched my core with its song.
A song of gratitude for life
a song of sorrow and of joy
a song of final good bye,
accompanied by a background sound
similar to a bee hive hum
just before it moves on
into freedom.

Suddenly the breeze paused
we both caught our breath
and savored the moment of peace.
Let's cling a little while longer then
to show the world our outfit of pure gold!
But the breeze was quickly back
with its gentle nudging to let go ...
Let's be brave now and take a leap
into the open arms of tomorrow
wherever that will be.

The final notes of the leaf
kept me in reverent silence,
I knew I was meant to listen:
“Stay with me oh stay with me
while I dance my last dance on this plane
as I move on in joy into freedom”.
The infinite grace of the leaf's last dance
left me in awe and mesmerized
as a silent tear fell from my eyes.

I have witnessed life
and its transition into the light.

Margherita,
Things must be different in Italy as they are here in the U.S. Most of our trees have long lost their leaves, except the evergreen Pine trees of course. Having the job that I have I cannot watch the leaves fall, though I would love to... Great poem!

Thank you, dear David, for stopping by and commenting so kindly. I am sorry for you that you miss the magical dance of falling leaves. Here the trees still continue to shed their golden leaves, of course they began in October. I was inspired to write this poem, while I visited my daughter in Belgium and watched this leaf on a tree in their little garden. It was early November.

Have a beautiful Sunday.

Margherita,
I am so grateful you dropped by and left us this beautiful poem.
I felt the urgency of the breeze
whose invitation to let go increased
the rhythm of the trembling leaf.
It sweetly rocked within my eyes
and touched my core with its song.
My favorite part...

Yes the leaves have dropped but the memories of the beautiful colors lives on in our hearts.
Thank you for sharing!
~Zep

Thank you, dear Zep, for your most loving comment. The good-byes to those golden tree gifts are always a mixture of melancholy and new expectation. And you are right the memory too is a gift in itself.

Love,

I watched the frantic tossing of the very last golden spotted leaf to be plucked by fate from a tree this Autumn. It was a lot like you've described.... but I gave it a voice * NO! NO! Don't let go!!!!* ... but letting go gives a much needed rest. Letting go allows the newness to form and burst in the Spring. Sometimes people panic over the letting go that will free their souls... give them the rest that is a must in healing and to be readied for the soul's next growth spurt!

What a joy to see your precious writing upon the Peak today Margherita! Welcome back m'friend!

Margherita,

Lovely poem. Excellent imagery of nature to wit the leaf taking on a dance of freedom from its birthplace. And happy to know you're back. Welcome!!
