Fire Maple Memories

Fire Maple Memories

Lonely lays my love,
beneath winter’s snows of white.
Blanketed in silence are the murmurs of my heart.

Brilliant was the fire of Love's passing...
The spring and summer of my days
were filled with growth and discovery and permanence.
The days grew long and my comfort was unended...
Then the winsome summer sun spent less time with me,
and my companion became the slow cold days of autumn.

The expectation of a finale
was all my heart desired
and I showed my love a blaze of glory,
just as I had seen my predecessors do before me.
But to no avail.

The sun receded;
the days grew short and lonely.
My tears fell in many colors;
more brilliant than the love I bore...
They fell to the ground and travelled down the empty streets
of my memories.

Won't you come again my love?
I pass over through this winter gloom to the other side...
I shall try to follow you, though your footsteps before me have been lost in the snows.

I shall continue on;
I have heard the carols,
and hope
for a redemption and renewal called spring.

I shall hope my love,
you come back to me.
Then I shall rise like a phoenix
and burst into a green
and golden glory once again.

Remember my love.
Remember me.
I shall sleep
and memories will be my bridge to your heart once again...

Dear David,

this poem is stunningly beautiful and inspiring. Wonderful picture too. I will certainly read this more than once. It has its touch of melancholy and yet it expresses hope. It touches the heart and lifts it up.
