Forget me not...

They say a poem's not really a poem until you share it with someone else. And that's what this place is all about.

Forget me not,
lest I forget;
but then I will not remember to regret..
Forget me not,
though the colors fade
from their brilliance;
just past sunset.

My imagination has more whiskers than reality these days.
Rampant desire and imagination seem to run hand-in-hand like old school-mates...
When the clover is forgotten,
the warm sunset of the day will brighten my memories
even if naught else remains,
in this my jar of marbles and my treasure box of keep-sakes;
but I will smile with satisfaction.
Don't ask me why; for how could that matter?

Between the lines and partitions we organize our lives...
Sometimes I wish for the time when records did not matter
and the only things of worth were visual,
tactile and things of the heart.
Things and people that touched me as I reached out to them,
are what I remembered most.
The lessons are still clear even if the reasons why have been lost.
Perhaps if I had paid more attention to the details,
I might remember more clearly,
but I was lost in a fog of glory
and spinning in wondrous moments.

Though the faces have retreated in the fog,
I still remember the smiles that warmed me.
The seasons have been lost,
but I remember the laughter.
The jokes have been lost;
with no memory of their absence.

The sunset approaches with stealth like an old orange cat,
and he thinks I do not notice...
I know he is hunting me, but I have no fear.
I may appear to be lost,
but he and I both know I am still here.

Enjoy this moment with me now,
how ever short or long you have,
and know that in my memory
you will most surely belong.
Perhaps without a face,
perhaps without a name,
but with a smile,
with a glance or a hug;
I will know you just the same...

Stay with me how ever long you have;
but love me before
I too am gone.

THis made me think of my relatives that recently crossed over.... and did forget.... not that they wanted to.... but had no choice in the matter at all..... we remember so much at the right and wrong times as human beings. It all comes down to being remembered. The resounding of your words and how they connect within those swirling on the memory tongue of another.
Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart...William Wordsworth

Follow your honest convictions, and stay strong. - William Thackeray

The bottom line, especially for my character,
is the issue of unconditional love.”
